Dear Colleagues:

This week's announcement of a director for the new UCOP Business Resource Center (BRC) is another important milestone in our progress toward consolidated business units within UCOP.

Director named for new Business Resource Center

Helen Valness has been named Director of the BRC effective August 1, 2008. Helen has been with OP since 1999, currently serving as Director of Audit. With 26 years of professional auditing experience, she brings the strategic and management skills necessary to help the Office of the President consolidate its business functions.

Helen will be involved in filling the other BRC leadership and staff positions. We have full pools of applicants from which to draw, and the interview and hiring process will move forward through the month of July. The next step will be screening, interviews, and hiring of the rest of the BRC leadership team. After that process is completed, we will proceed with filling the staff positions in the business service and payroll centers.

HR&B Executive Director job openings

As announced last week, the Human Resources and Benefits department started the recruitment process on July 3 for two senior leadership positions: Executive Director - Employee Relations Programs, Policies and Services and Executive Director - Quality Assurance & Compliance. These positions will be open on the UCOP Jobs website until July 24. In order to get a broad and diverse pool of applicants, these positions are open for systemwide recruitment. Institutional Research Director position reevaluated

The internal UCOP job posting for the Director of the new Institutional Research unit closed on June 30th. After further review and consultation, we've decided to revisit the scope of responsibilities for the Director position based on the anticipated level of work in the new unit. We expect that a revised job description will be posted in the next few weeks. The new posting will be UC-wide as well as external to get the broadest possible pool of applicants.

Upcoming brown bag meetings

Our series of noontime brown bag discussions of OP's restructuring initiatives resumes next week.
