UCOP Restructuring Update for Week of September 8, 2008
September 9, 2008
- Research Program Application and Review Center (PARC)
- Brown bag meetings this week
Dear Colleagues:
This week's update includes information about the new Program Application and Review Center in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, and we resume our series of brown bag meetings with sessions scheduled on Wednesday and Friday.
Research Program Application and Review Center
The Research Program Application and Review Center (PARC) is a new unit created as part of the restructuring of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. Initially, PARC will be charged with managing the pre-award process and coordinating the peer review for a number of research grant programs administered by the University of California that distribute awards to researchers both within UC and at institutions across the State. Its first task will be to carry out a peer review of proposals for research funded by fees from UC s management of the national laboratories. It is envisioned that PARC would ultimately carry out the peer review activities for all the research programs within the Office of the President. Potential programs that could utilize the services of the PARC include industry/university research grants, grants in HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and tobacco-related disease research, and review and re-competition of Multicampus Research Units (MRUs). There will be a brief presentation about PARC during this week's brown bag meetings (see below for details).
The PARC Director position has been posted on the UCOP jobs website, and will remain open for applications until September 24. In order to attract a broad and diverse pool of applicants, the Director position is open to current UC employees systemwide. It's expected that additional job openings in PARC will be listed in the coming weeks.
In addition to the openings related to the restructuring initiatives, a number of other openings are posted regularly on the UCOP jobs website.
