Colleagues,
This week's update focuses on the budget presentations being made to the Regents this Wednesday, and the brown bags we are holding this week to help explain these presentations and what they mean for us and our ongoing restructuring efforts. Also included is an announcement of a new UCOP HR director, information about new support services for employees, and reminders about open positions.
Budget presentations to Regents
We will be making two budget presentations to the Regents at their meeting in San Francisco this week. One will be on the proposed systemwide operating budget for 2009-10, which we are submitting in the midst of continuing bad budget news out of Sacramento; and, as mentioned last week, one will be a revised 2008-09 budget for the Office of the President reflecting the additional reductions we have achieved through the Voluntary Separation Program and restructuring consolidations. Details about these presentations are available online as follows:

Support services for employees
As mentioned in last week's update, it is very important for employees to take care of their well-being as we move through the restructuring process, which can be very stressful. In addition to the assistance already available through UCOP human resources, we are developing additional staff support services, targeted to the needs of individual departments and employees. More information about these services will be available soon.
UCOP HR Director named
Rene Jackson has been named the new Director of Human Resources for the Office of the President. Rene has been with UC since 2001, and as you may know has been serving as the Interim Chief Human Resources Officer for UCOP following the retirement of Rosemary Monroe. Working closely with and under the direction of UCSF HR, Rene will oversee HR services for UCOP employees, and she will serve as the primary day-to-day liaison between the UCSF HR Director and the Vice President for Human Resources at the Office of the President. One of Rene's top priorities will be focusing on the integration of UCOP HR services with UCSF HR services to ensure high-quality, and cost-effective services for UCOP employees.
Jobs update
As previously announced, all positions in the new Issues Management Policy Analysis and Coordination (IMPAC) unit are now open for applications from UCOP internal staff only. Staff members interested in the coordinator positions are encouraged to apply for each of the three different job postings currently posted on the UCOP jobs website. The IMPAC unit hopes to hire four coordinators who will cross-train and function as a team.
Also open now is a new Divisional Fiscal Resource Coordinator position in Academic Affairs. Similar to other Divisional Operations Coordinator positions, this position will perform functions that are not being absorbed by the OP Budget Office and the BRC, including budgetary planning, proposals and initiatives, and managing facilities/space needs for the division.
Finally, a reminder that new jobs in UCOP's new and reorganized units have been opening each week. Employees interested in these opportunities are strongly encouraged to check the UCOP jobs website regularly for new job postings and application deadlines.
