2008 Holiday Closure Information
December 9, 2008
The following is a reminder of the message issued regarding our Winter Holiday closure for this year. The Office of the President will be officially closed beginning Wednesday, December 24, 2008 through Thursday, January 1, 2009, except for essential services. Each Vice President will determine whether there are essential services that must be maintained during this time period and plan for staffing accordingly. (Winter and New Year holidays are observed on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1.) The Office of the President will reopen on Friday, January 2, 2009.
Employees will be given the option of using accrued vacation, compensatory time-off, or leave without pay for the three working days between the holidays (December 26, 29 and 30). Staff should arrange in advance with their respective supervisors to utilize either vacation, compensatory time-off or leave without pay for these days, as follows:
- Staff may utilize vacation in advance of their actual accrual. Also, newly hired employees, represented and non-represented, may utilize their vacation accruals without having six continuous months on pay status;
- Staff with accrued compensatory time may elect to use it to cover the three days off, or to offset the use of vacation time;
- Staff who do not wish to use vacation or compensatory time-off may request leave without pay for these days based upon departmental approval. In this event, such employees shall not lose hourly vacation or sick leave accruals for these three days.
