January 2008 Dear UCOP Colleagues: As you know, the Office of the President is offering UCOP employees a Voluntary Separation Program as part of the overall restructuring efforts underway at UCOP. The program was announced last November, and is designed to help the ongoing restructuring effort by giving additional support to those employees interested in transitioning out of UCOP. This program is one of several efforts aimed at minimizing the need for layoffs. As was announced, under this program UCOP employees who choose to voluntarily separate from UCOP will receive a severance payment, based on their current salary and years of service. The advantage of this program is that it gives employees who are already considering retirement or other career choices outside of UCOP, additional financial support they would not otherwise get. It also affords employees some additional time and support in planning their transition. Since the proposed program was announced, it has been undergoing review and comment. As a result of that process, we are now able to announce the final program details. Highlights of the final and approved program are as follows:
Attached are documents which include the description of the program, the election form, and instructions to employees, supervisors and department administrators regarding the processing of the election form. These documents, answers to frequently asked questions plus more information can be found on the OP HR website. Employees may also direct questions to their supervisor, and to the following people in UCOP Human Resources:
As a reminder, this is not a voluntary early retirement program (VERIP), and the program only applies to those functions within UCOP that ultimately report up to the president. Offices of the Regents (Treasurer's Office, Office of General Counsel, Compliance/Audit and the Secretary's Office) are not part of this program. It also does not apply to senior management who are at-will employees. Other exclusions are detailed in the attached plan proposal. Also as a reminder, UCOP employees may visit www.universityofcalifornia.edu/future to learn more about and follow all the UCOP restructuring efforts. Sincerely, Rosemary Monroe |
